Nick Schuster is a physio, business owner, and author of “Becoming the Ultimate Physio – a practical guide to private practice success”. In his 15 years as a physio clinic owner, he has seen it all. He has interviewed, mentored and hired hundreds of physio, allied health and admin staff, and he knows what makes employees tick. After going through a significant period of upheaval at his clinic in 2014 Nick has designed a unique leadership and team mentoring method that has allowed him to double his clinic revenue while halving his clinical hours, and creating a work environment in which his team loves coming to work, and perform at their best on a daily basis. Nick will teach you how to achieve your version of success in your clinic, through leadership and team mentoring education.

The major challenges for me as a young business owner was helping shape my teams thinking process, mindset and helping them to grow past their limitations. Obtaining these skills were crucial in helping me to leverage my team and more importantly develop my teams culture in a way that everyone felt ownership and mutual desire to see each other succeed. When everyone pulls in one direction, the sense of comradery, achievement and the rewards exponentially increase. Nick from the Ultimate Physio helped me understand and address my own leadership limitations which I was then able to coach my team on. James GraftonChampion Physiotherapy James Grafton My name is Lorna Golombick and my clinic is Lime Physical Therapy. I am a wife and mum, as well as a physiotherapist for the past 25 years. Working in Zimbabwe and South Africa, then the USA and finally Australia, I have had exposure to all types of work and learnt many skills along the way. This led me to extra training in the area of Lymphoedema Therapy and Cancer Rehabilitation with PINC and STEEL certification. The major challenges I have faced in my clinic prior to being part of the Ultimate Physio community and working with Nick were numerous – the main thing was chronic understaffing and battling to attract the right team members. In addition, since I was always fully booked I struggled to make the time to co-ordinate team meetings and mentor staff and when I did, I was uncertain that the time brought about any positive outcomes. The transformation that has occurred so far as a result of working with Nick and within our awesome community is that I don’t feel alone anymore as I realise that my challenges are very common. I feel supported and encouraged as I realise that there is a better way to support my staff and grow our team in a way that empowers us all to take ownership of the direction in which we are heading. As a result of working with Nick, I have reduced my caseload – I have regular one-on-on staff mentoring sessions scheduled and am aware of their values and work preferences to enable us to work together more cohesively. We are building a caseload suited to my newest physio and problem-solving as a team with better overall implementation of solution-based strategies in real time. After all the practice performance, marketing and business training courses I have subscribed to over the years, I found working with Nick to be very refreshing. He manages to integrate knowing your numbers with knowing your team and yourself in order to build a cohesive team that can contribute in ways that satisfy mutual goals within set timeframes. Lorna GolombickLime Physical Therapy Lorna Golombick I graduated in 2011 and worked in private practice for 18mths before buying into the business I was working in. My first 18 months I had little to no mentoring. It was a huge learning curve, not only did I have to learn my clinical skills, now I was a business owner as well. Amongst all this I got married and now have three beautiful children, busy times. I think the major challenges I’ve had a business owner is working too much ‘in’ the business and not enough ‘on’ the business. This is partly because I’ve been so busy treating clients, but also partly because I’ve had no idea what I should be working on. I’ve always had goals for the business, however have never really had a clear structure around achieving them. I’m now a part of the Ultimate Physio community and through working with Nick my challenges and frustrations now have answers. The clarity that Nicks program provides is extremely motivating, it provides a clear framework to tackle many of the challenges we face as clinic owners. I now feel like I can achieve the goals I set, not only for the business, but also personally. The team is starting to get on board with my vision and I can see the change in their attitude and motivation . I feel like the work I’ve begun through Nicks program is just the tip of the iceberg. The past 3 months has been a huge learning experience, material I never knew existed, but should be essential learning for all clinic owners. I have been in private practice since 1991 and have owned 4 practices. In 2014 we found that we had overcommitted ourselves in the property market ourselves and reluctantly filed for bankruptcy. We had lost everything that we owned. Our company was dissolved and I had to start again. I started doing some professional and personal development and decided to change the way that I was working. After nearly 30 years in practice sometimes working 12 hour days 5 1/2 days a week my body had worn out also. I was already working on a lot of my challenges before joining the Ultimate Physic Community but was still having issues with how to develop really close relationships with staff members. I had learnt a lot about team building but something was missing. I learnt through Nicholas how to connect to my team personally and professionally.
